Mark Cuban's mission to create a playoff alternative to the Bowl Championship Series has a name: Radical Football.

Cuban created that company in late December, registering it in Texas on Dec. 28. That was two weeks after the billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner said that he was "actively interested but in the exploratory stage" of creating and funding a playoff system to crown a champion for major college football.

The formation of the company was first reported by The San Diego Union-Tribune. Radical Football has at least one employee: Brett Morris, 40, who has experience as president of a national marketing agency focused on sporting goods and as Notre Dame's promotions coordinator.

"[Cuban is] real engaged in this," Morris told the Union-Tribune while in San Diego representing Radical Football as a judge in a contest for college students who pitched plans to change the football postseason.

Cuban's basic idea is to keep the bowl system but make it more profitable for programs to qualify for his playoffs than to participate in a bowl.

"Put $500 million in the bank and go to all the schools and pay them money as an option," Cuban told ESPNDallas.com in December. "Say, 'Look, I'm going to give you X amount every five years. In exchange, you say if you're picked for the playoff system, you'll go.'"

I really like Cuban's approach here. Use some investment (most likely from his own pockets) and buy major college football programs into a system where they can get to compete against the top teams and really build their exposure through a tournament. This has more potential to change the landscape than dealing with the bureaucrats that are the BCS stakeholders.

However, are the current conferences/teams currently under contract with the BCS? If so, how long before a transition could occur?

NEW YORK -- A three-game series between the Florida Marlins and Mariners June 24-26 has been moved from Miami to Seattle because of a U2 concert.

Major League Baseball said Thursday the change was made because of the scheduling conflict at Sun Life Stadium. The rock band U2 is scheduled to play at the stadium June 29 and the Marlins must vacate the stadium to allow setup time for the concert.

Bono wins out! I think in this case I would choose baseball.

It's illegal to text while driving in most US states. Yet a new study by researchers at the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) finds no reductions in crashes after laws take effect that ban texting by all drivers. In fact, such bans are associated with a slight increase in the frequency of insurance claims filed under collision coverage for damage to vehicles in crashes

Turns out extraneous laws don't in fact protect us from ourselves.

If I was a Notre Dame student/alum, this would hurt my school spirit more than help it.

A good reason to not live in NYC. I'll stick with my Oregon mountain spring water.

Robbed.. that's all I have to say about that.

Just listened to Stone Sour's new album all the way through. I really like to listen to Slipknot when I'm programming (the hardcore music fuels my brain) and this is an interesting melodic diversion for their vocalist. I haven't decided exactly to what extreme I enjoyed this album, but it is indeed pretty decent. The vocals fit the style well and at times harken back to a 90's Ozzy with lots of weaving guitar line.  The most palatable tune for the non-hard rock fan is probably "Hesitate," which I can see having major contemporary rock radio appeal.

Overall I give it a 7/10. I'll probably add this to my Amazon wish list and grab it one day when I need something new to throw into my rotation.

Tennessee coach Derek Dooley responded to the latest in an outbreak of staph infections  Wednesday with an impromptu clinic on "proper shower discipline" for the entire locker room:

"We had, I told them, the worst shower discipline of any team I've ever been around. So we talked a little bit about application of soap to the rag and making sure you hit all your body. You know, you can neglect it trying to cut corners, and it shows in how you practice and elsewhere. I'm hoping we show some improvement in that."

How are the Vols supposed to beat the Ducks when they can't even properly wield a bar of soap.. That near two touchdown spread is looking a little better to me now.
